A sign language interpreter is needed to provide student support. This position would entail approximately 6.5 hours of service per day Monday-Friday when school is in session, and will pay based upon experience.

Educational Sign Language Interpreter for the Gering Public Schools Number of Days Worked: Part-time (casual labor) __varies based on length of activity Department: Student Services FLSA Status: At-Will Immediate Supervisor: Director of Student Services, Elementary Principal, Staff Supervised: None Essential Requirements: Meet the requirements specified for employment in Rule 51/52 for Educational Sign Language Interpreters Must pass a criminal background check No history of child abuse or negligence Essential Responsibilities: (Job Tasks) Understand and comply with the Gering Public Schools Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook. Regularly access the e-mail system for review of materials distributed from Gering Public Schools. Attends required Gering Public Schools meetings such as Time Clock training, Annual Orientation, etc. Responsible for providing communication facilitation between signers and non-signers during classroom activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Follows the Interpreter Code of Ethics for confidentiality of student information and situations that are learned during an activity. Respects all forms of communication. Abides by Nebraska Regional Programs’ policy for use of technology and social media. Collaborates with other Regional Program activity staff regarding the child’s needs during the activity. Displays appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, parents, administrators, teachers, co-workers, and community members. Provides own transportation to fulfill responsibilities of position. Assists with supervision of students during activities when not interpreting. Fulfills roles and/or responsibilities assigned for each activity. Other duties as assigned.
